Professor Ludwig is the author of sixty scientific publications, author and co-author of one hundred and twenty lectures at international and national conferences. Nowadays he is focusing on synthesis and study of organic push-pull systems with nonlinear optical properties. He has been a member of various scientific boards and councils of the Czech universities.
In 1995, he was elected a Chairman of the Academic Senate of the University. Since 1997 till January 2000 and since 2006 till 2010, he was appointed the Vice-Rector of the University of Pardubice, in the period of 2000 to 2006 the Rector of the University of Pardubice.
Since February 2010 Prof. Ludwig has been appointed again the Rector of the University of Pardubice, re-elected in 2013 for the period 2014 - 2018.
