Prof. Wágner graduated from the Institute of Chemical Technology in Pardubice and is now employed at the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemical Technology. In 1990 he obtained a scientific degree CSc. – Candidate of Science – and in 2005 became Professor in the field of inorganic chemistry. He obtained the scientific degree of Doctor of Chemical Sciences (DrSc.) in 2016. After the Velvet Revolution he realized a two-year long internship in Edinburgh, and for two and half years he did research in Canada. He gave lectures at scientific conferences and universities in Japan, China, South Korea, America, Russia, Great Britain, France, Greece, or Italy. He also organized many international scientific events in Pardubice. He was a leading researcher and co-researcher of many foreign as well as home research grant projects. In 2014 he built a team for research of advanced non-crystalline materials. He prepared many students for a successful career. These students continue with the research and have achieved success at home as well as abroad. At the moment he participates in research of the Centre of Materials and Nanotechnologies (CEMNAT). So far, he has published more than 230 scientific articles and his H-index is 31. He obtained an American patent focused on new materials with non-volatile memory. He also devotes himself to popularisation of science within regular events of the University. 

He is interested in history, in particular Czech history and history of Pardubice region. He performed elemental analysis of deniers found by archeologists by the village Chýšť in Pardubice region, which was a brief diversion from his main scientific focus.

In a certain way he has been mentoring as a university teacher all his professional life. In his free time, he devoted himself to founding the educational voluntary non-profit organisation Toastmasters International, where the language of communication is English, and he is still active in this organisation. The main purpose of the club is to educate and provide experience in the art of public speaking and also teach various forms of people management.

He is interested in classical music including opera, he plays the piano. He likes sport and actively does cycling, plays golf and tenis.
