Tento článek se zabývá koncepty interkulturní a kroskulturní komunikace a oblastí, která je dnes považována za tzv. "lingua franca". Po prodiskutování těchto pojmů je pozornost věnována lingvistickým aspektům tzv. "International English" s důrazem na roli pragmatiky a motivů mluvčích, jež jsou dále analyzovány prostřednictvím prezentace výsledků mezinárodního šetření, realizovaného v letech 2011-2012 na 6 evropských univerzitách. Na základě následné diskuse shod či rozdílů v komunikačních vzorcích mezi šesti různými kulturními skupinami jsou formulovány závěry v oblasti jazykových struktur "International English", která si zasluhuje více pozornosti v rámci interkulturní komunikace.
eng	Intercultural Communication through International English	Intercultural awareness becomes increasingly more important with the use of ?International English?. The paper deals with concepts of today´s lingua franca and concepts of both intercultural and cross-cultural communication. After discussing the concepts it moves to linguistic aspects of International English with focus on the role of pragmatics and speakers´ motives, which is further explored via demonstrating results of an international survey carried in 2011 - 2012 at six European universities. The alikeness or differences in communication patterns among the six different cultural groups are further discussed and conclusions are made in terms of language structures in International English to which more attention in intercultural communication is to be paid.
