Childhood and Multiculturalism in US	Concepts of childhood change with time and place and because it is "culture that determines how children experience childhood" (MacLeod viii), the paper focuses on how American childhood is influenced, modified, and perhaps complicated by the fact that American society is multicultural. Using Nathan Glazer´s concept of the elements of American multiculturalism and Steven Mintz´s idea of postmodern childhood, the paper analyzes how the issue of growing up in multicultural society is represented in contemporary works, particularly in Michael Dorris and Louise Erdrich´s postmodern novel The Crown of Columbus.
