Nostrification process

What is nostrification?

Nostrification is the process by which two governments agreee to recognize, or acknowledge, one's formal education.

For example, if Jane got a master's degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of India. In order to study in the Czech Republic she will first get her degree verified by India and then nostrified by the Czech Republic.

Why do I need it?

Czech law requires nostrification for all education obtained in a foreign country.

How do I get my education nostrified?

The simple answer is, it depends. The process is different for each country. The process for your country will be one of the following three. Will will call these country type A, country type B and country type C.

The process for each type will now be described.

Country type A

If your education is from one of the following countries, use the rules which follow:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cuba, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Syria, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.

  1. Have your diploma, and diploma supplement, translated into the Czech language by an officially certified translator
  2. Fill in the nostrification application form
  3. Pay a nostrification fee of 3000 CZK to the University of Pardubice. Payment can be made by bank transfer or by payment in person (cash)

  1. Have your diploma, and diploma supplement, legalized, also called "apostilled", by the country issuing the diploma.
  2. Have your diploma, and diploma supplement, translated into the Czech language by an officially certified translator
  3. Fill in the nostrification application form
  4. Pay a nostrification fee of 3000 CZK to the University of Pardubice. Payment can be made by bank transfer or by payment in person (cash)

Country type C

If your country was not listed in 'type A' or 'type B' above follow these nostrification instructions:

Your diploma, and diploma supplement:

  1. must be authenticated by the government (Ministry of Foreign affairs, or Embassy) which 'issued' the diploma (Example. if you have a diploma from the University of Ghana, you would go to the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Ghana)
  2. must be verified by the Czech embassy
  3. must be translated into the Czech language by an officially certified translator
  4. Fill in the nostrification application form
  5. Pay a nostrification fee of 3000 CZK to the University of Pardubice. Payment can be made by bank transfer or by payment in person (cash)
