International Students Mix in European Studies

10. 7. 2018

Twenty two students participated in the "European Studies and Governance" summer school, experienced life in the Czech Republic and made new friends from across the world. The programme ran from July 8th to August 7th, 2018 and was hosted by the University's main campus in Pardubice and its satelite campus in Litomyšl.

While the spring semester students were about to finish their summer semester and were getting ready for the summer break, twenty two students from across the globe were preparing to come to the University of Pardubice Summer School programme beginning 8th July. Students of Summer School got a chance to have lectures and workshops at six faculties, Language Centre, Department of Sports and Education, and Centre for Technology and Knowledge Transfer .

"We want to give the students a chance to experience various aspects of university life in the Czech Republic. This way they will be able to learn about Europe from different perspectives and in many different fields”, said Monika Vejchodova, Head of the International Affairs and Development of the University of Pardubice. For example, the first week of the programme started with a kick-off day, two days of intercultural studies followed by two days focusing on Czech culture and Czech understanding of Asian Cultures. In the following weeks, they learned about the Czech system of governance, about the future of chemical sciences, how Europeans treat their mind and body, they got to know standards in automotive industry and learn how Czechs care about their cultural heritage, among other issues.

Students enjoyed evenings full of quiz night, concert, and the local brewery tour. This part of the programme was a chance for the students to hang out together with Czech students who helped to organize the Summer School. Saturdays were reserved for trips around the country. The students visited historic sights around the Czech Republic including the world-renowned Karlštejn Castle. Sundays were free days in which the students rested, worked on assignments, travel to the sights and cities nearby.
