Doc. Ing. Luboš Svoboda, CSc., b. Prague 1947, graduated in 1971 from the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague and joined the Stavební Isolace Praha company, where he worked in the research and development laboratories of the department specialising in chemically resistant insulating materials. At the same time he was an external postgraduate student of the Institute of Chemical Technology in Pardubice, where he earned his scientific degree CSc. in the technology of macromolecular materials. In 1992 he earned the position of Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague. In 1994 he defended his thesis to become Associate Professor at the Faculty, and in 1997 he was appointed Head of the Department of Building Materials, which he lead for 2 terms of office. Following reorganisation in 2007, he joined the newly established Department of Materials Engineering and Chemistry, where he was a lecturer and guarantor for specialised subjects. The professional community knows Professor Svoboda especially as the leading author of the monograph Stavební hmoty [Building Materials] (2004, 2005, 2007), which was also translated into Slovak (Stavebné materiály, 2005), and has been in use as a textbook at the majority of Czech and Slovak civil engineering schools. Professor Svoboda is the author or co-author of 20 inventions and 5 utility models, mainly in the formulation of building materials and composites. As a teacher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, he has supervised 5 postgraduate students and was the project manager or co-manager of 10 grant projects. He has authored or co-authored over 100 papers, mainly published in Czech journals or presented at national or international conferences.
