The LC teachers carry out their academic activities supported by different grant projects (development projects subsidized by the Ministry of Education, the European Social Fund, the Fund for University Development, the Jan Hus Educational Foundation, etc.). Supported by several of the above mentioned grant schemes, the LC has recently opened a state-of-the-art multimedia language lab that significantly contributed to move the language teaching and learning on a higher level.

The LC extensively cooperates with specialized language departments both in the Czech Republic and abroad, e.g. within the grant schemes or projects, such as Erasmus, Arion in Sweden, Madeira, France, Great Britain, Turkey, the USA, carrying on close working contacts with the British Council and the Goethe Institute. The mission of the LC is to develop a foreign language competence of the students in Bachelor´s, Master´s and PhD academic degrees in the appropriate study branches, the work in individual projects within the specialized language instruction, communication, presentation skills and socio-linguistics, consultancy, translations and interpreting.

Almost 2000 university students attend the LSP courses annually. Consultations and tutorials, as well as an everyday contact with this number of students, present the obligation for the LC to arrange for all relevant study agenda and numerous administrative and organizational activities.

Within the framework of other activities, the LC members develop contacts with the professional and general public: they organize regular methodology courses for secondary school language teachers, preparatory courses for potential undergraduates, preparatory courses for international certificates in foreign languages and professional courses for lecturers of foreign languages. Every year the LC teachers prepare and administer the entrance examination tests for all the non-philology faculties at the university.

The LC also focuses on the cooperation with international institutions, such as the Prüfungszentrale Wien and the Educational Testing Service Princeton - Institute for International Education of Budapest. The aforementioned institutions organize and grant the widely recognized international language certificates Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch (ÖSD)  and the Test of  English for International Communication (TOEIC).
