About the Faculty

The Faculty of Health Studies was originally founded as the Institute of Health Studies in 2002 to offer the education for secondary schools graduates in the field of general nursing and midwifery. Because of the formation of new magister and doctoral study programme the Institute became from January 1st 2007 the Faculty.

The bachelor study programme Nursing is designed as a multidisciplinary programme that meets standards of the European Union in higher education and skills of nursing professions. The students are provided with solid theoretical and practical background. Apart from the subjects of as anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, nursing, psychology, sociology, law, management and economy, introduction to informatics and language instruction, the stress is also put on practical skills and even in the relatively short-term 3 years bachelor study it is counted with space for scientific research activities. The master study programme Nursing is focused on clinical care and administration training that should broaden nursing qualifications and competences. This, in its complex conception, includes not only classical medical-preventive care of out-patient and hospitalized patients, but also qualified care of children, seniors, family and disabled people. The aim of the study specialization Prevention, Improvement and Therapy of Health and Social Problems of Children, Adults and Seniors, which has been running in the frame of the doctoral study programme Specialization in the Healthcare, is to provide students with the highest level of education in the mentioned field and with deep theoretical knowledge. Moreover, students familiarize during their studies with methods of scientific research work activities in the mentioned field. The doctoral study programme has been running together with the Faculty of Health and Social Studies of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.

There are three clinical workplaces of the University at the Regional hospital of Pardubice – internal, surgery and otorinolaryngology, head and neck surgery clinics that participate in educational and research activities of the Faculty of Health Studies.

The set study plan and material and personal provision of the education correspond with the requirements of the European Union in terms of range and quality of study. General nursing and Midwifery are among the seven subject fields whose graduates can apply for positions in medical field in all countries of the European Union.
