Department of Wood, Pulp and Paper offers you:

• The Department can test and determine properties of fibrous materials such as fractionation of fibrous material, determination of distribution of fibre lengths and coarseness on a KAJAANI FS-100 apparatus, microscopic analysis of fibrous and non-fibrous components of paper stock etc.

• Moreover, at the Department it is possible to routinely test pulps and evaluate their paper-forming abilities.

• It is also possible to measure paper strength, mechanical and optical properties, inclusive of determination of their molecular-surface properties.

• A 15 litre laboratory digester and a batch digesting apparatus with 1 litre pressure vessels make it possible to perform testing of pulp batches with various digesting media and addition of digesting chemicals.

• Various types of laboratory-scale beating devices are suitable tools for obtaining sufficient information on the course and character of beating processes during beating of various kinds of papermaking pulp.

• The available laboratory-scale paper machine and cardboard making machine allows preparation of samples of paper and cardboard. Test paper sheets can also be produced on a lab-scale sheet former.

• We possess a MicroScanner apparatus for objective evaluation of paper formation, character and number of impurities in pulp and paper.
